My AI Journey with Practical Project Applications

Ways of Working

Description

My AI journey began with both necessity and curiosity. I was assigned a project where I had to deliver a pre-study and propose a solution for a legacy IT system - under two major constraints: limited time and limited domain knowledge. Faced with this challenge, I turned to ChatGPT, a tool I had only recently heard about. What began as a curious experiment quickly proved transformative, changing not only how I completed the project but also how I saw the potential of AI in daily work.

In this session, I’ll share how that first step grew into hands-on projects that I never imagined I could build myself. You’ll follow along as I walk through two examples:
AI Email Assistant – designed to ease one of our most time-consuming tasks: managing the inbox. It summarizes messages, drafts responses, and helps reclaim focus time.
AI Research Assistant – built to transform how research proposals are written by learning from past proposals, organizing insights, and generating structured drafts.
I’ll be open about the process, the roadblocks I faced, and what I learned along the way. My goal is not to impress with technical jargon but to show that AI is approachable, and even small steps can lead to big improvements in how we work.

Key Objectives/Deliverables

AI can feel complicated, and in many ways it is when building proper solutions, but the first steps don’t have to be overwhelming. By starting small and experimenting, you’ll see how AI becomes more approachable and how it can bring value to daily work.

Learning Objectives
·       My Journey to AI: Learn how I upskilled and applied AI step by step in real projects.
·       AI in Action: See two practical examples - an AI Email Assistant and an AI Research Assistant in use.
·       Challenges and Lessons: Understand the hurdles I faced and how I navigated them.
·       Starting Your Own AI Journey: Take away simple ideas to begin experimenting with AI in your own context.
