PMI Impact strategy by Jennifer Tharp
 Jennifer-Tharp.jpg

PMI strategy is multidimensional:

  • Breadth – reach more people

Empower the PMI community to share our collective wealth of knowledge with new people who need it. Potential actions can be student/academic outreach events, industry-specific meetings, community service projects and new member promotions.

  • Depth – Impact each individual more deeply

Have a profound impact on people’s lives and empower them to make their ideas a reality. Potential chapter actions can be mentorship programs, hours for impact projects, professional development events and advocacy for PMI kickoff.

  • Time – Nurture lasting relationships

Cultivate deep, trusting relationships with people and organizations who share our aspiration. Potential chapter actions can be member retention campaigns, cross-chapter collaboration and to encourage members to take on leadership roles.

Who likes board games? I do. Normally you start with simpler games like Kimble, and then move to Monopoly and role plays.

Have you thought, what kind of Project Manager skills can board games build?

  • Zoom in, Zoom out
  • Focus on things within your control.
  • Plan for increasing your chances
  • Keep you options open.
  • How long till risk exposure changes?
  • Prioritize.
  • Maximize gain for long term.
  • Limit number of choices.
  • Define how the success looks like.
  • Measure it (and the progress)
  • Know you strengths (and weaknesses)
  • Know who you are working with.
  • Build ecosystems.
  • Know how to negotiate.
  • What goes around, comes around.
  • Opportunity comes. Once.
  • Assume good intentions.

PMI Chapter in Georgia has executed on PMI’s 2022 youth strategy by creating multiple programs for more than 500 high school students. The programs included competition, podcasts, translated (Georgian) content distribution and it was initiated by partnership with JA.

It is a good example of cooperation between PMI Chapter and educational institutions.

Rising Leaders – Engaging Youth and the Academic sector

During the rising leaders presentation, Juliana did explore more in detail about the reasons of focusing on youth, presented the available materials and also introduced a toolkit for better planning chapter’s activities.

The student membership fee was also discussed during the session and most chapters did agree that the fee should not exist for a student and if there is a payment required, it should be taken care by the university or educational institution.
